South Downs Open 2026 (10 October 2026 - 13 March 2027)
The South Downs Open will exhibit 183 artworks by 165 artists, and 15 artists in the under-18 category, who are inspired by the South Downs region. We celebrate the beauty of the South Downs with an exciting range of paintings, prints, photography, textiles, ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, and contemporary craft that draw inspiration from across the South Downs region, from Old Winchester Hill in Hampshire to Beachy Head in East Sussex.
From sweeping views of Butser Hill, Old Winchester Hill and the Seven Sisters to imaginative interpretations of chalk downland, flora, fauna and local history, this year's exhibition showcases the incredible diversity of artistic responses inspired by the South Downs.
The artworks exhibited in this exhibition were selected from an open call to artists. Petersfield Museum and Art Gallery are delighted to have received hundreds of submissions from artists from across the region, amateur and professional, which reflects the inspiration the South Downs has for so many.
